Holistic Treatment of Colitis
I apply a holistic, body-centric treatment methodology in working with Ulcerative Colitis. Due to the complex nature of this condition, effective treatment requires sensitivity to and the ability to support proper functioning of the nervous system. I apply Chinese medicine channel theory and the energetic principles of quantum shiatsu to support a positive energetic shift in the client’s nervous system. Colitis often also involves some level of pain. Along with a therapeutic massage treatment approach (tui na) derived from Chinese medicine, I frequently use specialized tools like cupping and moxibustion to achieve an immediate reduction in the pain. The ability to maximize the body’s nutrient absorption through diet and strengthen gut function is critical in supporting Ulcerative Colitis. I address this aspect using the principles of nutrition therapy, which starts with a properly prepared whole foods diet and uses a variety of evaluative and functional tools to support digestive system and immune system functioning.
